Details

Inspired by the interior design word, this jewel is a sun mirror. With its convex mirror glass in 18-carat white gold, it calls to mind so-called “witches’ mirrors”.

First appearing in Northern Europe in the 16th century, this object may be found in Flemish paintings. Originally known as a “banker’s mirror” – it allowed bankers to keep an eye on an entire room – this “third eye” was later adopted by merchants for watching over their shops. In private settings, it was called a witch’s mirror by servants, whose employers led them to believe that these objects watched their every move and protected the inhabitants of the house. Aside from such beliefs, convex mirrors are practical in that they illuminate dark rooms with their many reflections. Embellished with brass or gilded wood rays representing a sun, they became the sun mirrors of the 17th century.

This 18-carat yellow gold pendant is set with 108 diamonds, brilliant-cut, F/G colour, VS clarity for a total of 0.37 carat (including arrow).

The pendant can be worn on an adjustable 18-carat yellow gold chain or as a brooch, accompanied by a fine arrow set with diamonds.
